Riverside Avenue Christian Church
DISCIPLES OF CHRIST
Welcome to Riverside Avenue Christian Church!

Located in the heart of the Riverside-Avondale community,
we are a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

We are an open and affirming congregation that celebrates the love of God and the diversity of humanity. We gather as a community to worship together, to seek faith with understanding, and to engage in service to the world.

Don’t have all the answers? That’s okay – neither do we!
But we believe that together we are able to seek a deeper understanding of God through Jesus Christ.
We strive to be a place where people who have not found a faith community can grow together into deeper spirituality as they learn, pray, serve, and share the Good News of God’s transforming and infinite love.
So, whether you are just exploring the Christian faith or have been part of the church your entire life, we invite you to join us on the journey!
Who We Are
Riverside Avenue Christian Church has lived out this witness in the
Riverside-Avondale community since 1921.

We affirm that Jesus is the son of the Living God, whose grace provides forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God and with one another.

We affirm that all people are God’s children and strive to live this in all our actions.

We believe in the individual freedom of Christians to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, prayer, and the community of faith.

This belief helps create a broad spectrum of faith-understanding in our church, and we seek to honor our differences faithfully by striving to learn from one another’s faith convictions.
The Chalice & The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
As a symbol for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), this red chalice is usually found on our congregations’ websites and church signs.
The chalice symbolizes the central place of communion in worship for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The X-shaped cross of the disciple Andrew is a reminder of the ministry of each person and the importance of evangelism.
