Neighborhood Events

Riverside reaching out...

Our Christian faith calls us not only to worship, but also to serve.  Throughout scripture we are called to care for all of God’s children.  At Riverside, we are committed to serving our community, nation, and world in the name of Christ.  The church offers opportunity to be involved in serving with God’s people in several ministry-programs in three general ways – ministries related to children and education, ministries supporting neighborhood events, and ministries offering support to members of our local community.

Serving in ministry to our neighbors:

Below you will find information about the ministries and programs that provide us an opportunity to celebrate significant events in our Christian life, the birth and the resurrection of Jesus, with our neighbors.

Community Easter Egg Hunt – Usually held the Saturday before Easter, this community event is a time for us to share the joy of Jesus’ resurrection with our neighbors.  Hiding and seeking more than 1,300 eggs each year, we also share an Easter story and crafts.  We have a wonderful time meeting our neighbors and sharing the Good News of Jesus.

Live Nativity – This Sunday evening event is held in connection to the Riverside-Avondale Luminaria night in December. The entire neighborhood is decorated with Luminaria and people come from all over the city to take part in the festivities. On this evening, we have a living nativity scene on the front lawn of the church – complete with animals. In the sanctuary, concerts are held and Christmas carols are sung. And in our Fellowship Hall, children can have their picture taken with Santa and make crafts to take home. Our entire community of faith participates in some way with this ministry, as the meaning of the Christmas season is shared in a unique way.
